I forgot to ask in my previous post, but when you bind off with the yarn doubled per the pattern, do you go up in needle size? 2 needles sizes?
I've never done this type of bind off before (I usually do the EZ sewn bind off), so I'd like to give it a try.

i didn't go up a needle size, i just bound off very loosely with the two strands held together, but that's just me *smile*.

I didn't go up a needle size either - just tried to bind off loosely - which didn't work so smoothly the first time, so I had to pull back a bit and re-do so it wouldn't squeeze my leg:)
